This page contains answers to common questions handled by us, along with some tips and tricks that we have found useful and presented here as questions.

Note: In these answers we will follow a few shorthand conventions for describing user-interface procedures. Key combinations will be presented like this: Ctrl+Alt+Delete, which means that you should press and hold down the Control key, the Alt key, and the Delete key at the same time. Menu selections will be presented like this: File->Open, which means that you should open the File menu, and then make the Open selection.

How to Download Files from the Web?

To download files from the ADIC web pages, you must save the links to your local disk. This may require right-clicking on the link, and selecting a menu option such as Save Link As..., which will bring up a file dialog box.

Does it support higher-order derivatives ?

Currently ADIC only supports the first- and second-order derivatives (on some platforms), although we do plan to offer higher order derivatives at some point.  Please send e-mail to adic@mcs.anl.gov if you have a need for higher derivatives.

What should the value of ADIC_ARCH be?

When using ADIC 1.1, to determine the appropriate value for the ADIC_ARCH environment variable, run the adicarch script, which resides in the adic/bin subdirectory of the directory in which the distribution was unpacked.

ADIC 1.2 is currently only available on linux, so ADIC_ARCH should be set to linux.
