Wireless has been provided for all participants, however, it is not meant to be a production and network. Please keep this in mind and be courteous when using the network by minimizing activities such as spawning globus jobs over wireless, running network intensive demos/applications over wireless, P2P file sharing, etc. Wired networking will be available in all conference and breakout rooms for presenters should there be wireless problems.
There will be *no* encrypted wireless connections. Please keep this in mind as *all* wireless traffic can be intercepted and read in clear text. If you will be accessing resources outside the conference, please be aware of this security implication. It is recommended that you do the following things where possible/applicable:
- Update your operating system with the latest security patches
- Update your virus scanner with the latest definitions and run a virus scan of your machine
- Disable any network services that are not needed for day to day operation or presentation of demos
- Use encrypted connections where feasible ssh, VPN, Kerberos, SSL, etc.
- Use a personal firewall or port blocker
The wireless network will be completely open for anyone to connect to. No special configuration should be necessary on your part; however, should you need it, the network name/SSID will be CCGRID (all caps). All wireless and wired conference connections will be behind a NAT machine and there will be no incoming or outgoing firewall or blocks. The only traffic that will be dropped is multicast, so multicast applications (AccessGrid, Apple Rendezvous, etc) will most likely not work.
If the conference networking staff or hotel networking staff find that your machine is breaking the conference and/or hotel network, all traffic from your machine will be dropped and you will be denied network access. Should you feel this has happened to you, please see the conference help desk so that we can quickly correct the problem.
