MCS Faculty Research Participation Program
|
|
See projects 47-73 of the DEP
catalogue for current MCS research opportunities.
|
| The Program |
Faculty participants in the program typically spend 10-12
weeks collaborating with an Argonne staff scientist or engineer on an existing Argonne
project of interest to the faculty member. Appointments are made principally for the
summer; however, similar arrangements can be made during the academic year. Although
there is no application deadline for academic year appointment, the deadline for the
summer appointment varies. |
|
|
| Eligibility |
An appointee must be a full-time faculty member of an
accredited U.S. college or university, and must have a commitment to continue in teaching
and research as a career. The applicant's objectives for the Argonne appointment should be
clearly specified, and these objectives must be endorsed by the applicant's department
head or dean. |
|
|
| Financial Assistance |
Financial support is available to full-time
faculty of U.S. academic institutions. Participants (U.S. citizens or
permanent resident aliens) are provided with a stipend based upon their
academic-year salary. Travel will usually be paid only for faculty whose
permanent address is more than fifty miles away from Argonne. Transportation
expenses will be reimbursed on the
basis of the most direct route. Travel by a private automobile will be
reimbursed at the current government rate up to a maximum of $350.00 or the
cost of the lowest commercial airfare, whichever is lower. Travel by air
will be reimbursed at the cost of the lowest commercial airfare. |
