| Abstract |
The Parallel Virtual File System (PVFS) Project at Clemson
University began as an attempt to add file I/O support into PVM, but has since grown
into a separate entity focusing on the support of cluster computing. The design of
the current PVFS system will first be covered in detail. Two application studies
will be then touched upon as well as raw performance numbers from two
"small" cluster experiments, and observations on preferred system
configuration for these "small" clusters will be made. As cluster computing
continues to grow in popularity, ever larger clusters are being built. At the same time,
interfaces for parallel I/O are maturing as well. In order to continue to support parallel
I/O in the face of growing cluster sizes and new interfaces, important changes must be
made in the PVFS design. A discussion of preliminary ideas on what aspects of the
PVFS system must change to meet these new demands will conclude the presentation. |
