Abstract

In this talk, we discuss the use of automatic differentiation to evaluate closure models in large-eddy simulation. We discuss two approaches to sensitivity analysis (computing derivatives of PDE solutions to parameters): continuous and discrete. In particular, we discuss the relationship between these methods and the use of AD in their computation. We also highlight a number of applications for sensitivity analysis, namely, their use in optimization, ranking significance of design variables (of model parameters), and computation of nearby flows.
