Abstract

Distributed computing applications are in general designed to run in LAN like network environments. The assumption does not hold for Grid resources distributed over wide-area and across different administrative domains, where network connectivity is limited by the presence of firewalls and routers. Existing and proposed virtual network solutions were not designed to handle issues particular to Grids, such as private IP address space collision, high administration overhead, need for static and public IP addresses and lack of flexibility to configure independent virtual networks. Network related issues in Grid computing and how ViNe approaches them are going to be discussed.
