Formulating Contact Dynamics Problems

Abstract:

When dealing with the simulation of the dynamics of several bodies in contact, one has to be able to predict when the contact between two bodies will start rolling, sliding or breaking, for this will change the structure of the equations of motion. Complementarity formulations are a promising approach for solving the problem. We present details of the model for frictionless contact and some computational issues.
