The First Truly Global Technical
Conference on the Grid
SC Global
The SC
Conference (http://www.sc-conference.org/) is the
premiere technical and industrial meeting for high-end networking and computing and
computational science. At the SC2001 conference, held in Denver Nov. 10-16
2001, we created the first truly global technical conference on the Grid: a
multi-national and multi-cultural meeting place for communication and discussion of ideas
relating to high-end computing and communications and its impacts on science and society.
The SC Global event used Access Grid technology (www.accessgrid.org) to link the SC Core at
the Denver Convention Center with dozens of SC Constellation Sites distributed both
across the U.S. and worldwide. A rich set of panels, workshops, birds-of-a-feather
sessions, and invited talks exploited the SC Global infrastructure to enable
communication and discussion among the international community and across a broad spectrum
of U.S. institutions. SC Constellation sites developed unique local programs that
combined SC Global with local material. See an Overview
for SC Global 2001. View SC Global 2001Team.
Constellation Sites
Constellation Sites were remote Access Grid Nodes dedicated to the SC
Global event at SC2001. Constellation Sites were "designed spaces" that supported
the high-end audio/video technology needed to provide a compelling and productive user
experience. Such Constellation Sites deployed AG technology and organized local and wide
area networking. The sites were responsible for developing a local program that
consumed and contributed to SC2001, as well as local events.
